Montana Mussel Response

With the finding of mussels in Montana last year the Montana FWP has been scrambling to come up with a good effective plan to stop the distribution of the invasive species to other waterways.

Additionally, many regional and local agencies and communities have gone on alert determined to help stop with any unwanted findings that could have potential environmental and economic impact.

Glacier National Park recently came out with new rules for recreation on all waters within its boarders after immediately halting any watercraft of any kind after Tiber reservoir tested positive for tiger mussels.

Currently there is no cases of the mussel in any waters in western Montana and the hope of the FWP Mussel Response team they can eliminate the spread. Check stations throughout the state are designed to educate and quickly check for any trace. Clean your boats, boots, waders and any other gear you use from week to week.
