2017 Fly-Fishing Lodge of the Year Nominees:
- Big Hole Lodge, in Wise River, Montana
- Hawk Lake Lodge , in Kenora, Ontario
- Wollaston Lake Lodge , in northern Saskatchewan
For over 30 years the the Big Hole Lodge has been hosting guests in southwest Montana to fish 5 different rivers including the incredible waters of the Big Hole river set within the pioneer mountains.
As founder Craig Fellin looks toward semi-retirement, handing over the management duties to son Wade, the award caps a celebrated career. Wade takes over a legacy that has been largely shaped from his upbringing on the Big Hole River and he will have to use that unique knowledge as the landscape for the industry changes.
Big Hole Lodge is situated in the heart of southwest Montana and the rivers are increasingly plagued by threats to their water quality. Increasing recreation, rising water temps earlier in the year, agriculture and antiquated water right laws are a constant threat to not only the fly fishing industry but to the economic and natural health of the entire area. Upper Missouri Waterkeeper works on lesser-understood, often complex, water quality issues affecting landscapes, waterways and communities of Southwest and Westcentral Montana.
